time to think bigger
the one bag list
Project Curious: 365 new experiences, in 365 places on the planet, with the intention of turning dreams into stories.
What began as a simple bucket list has turned into something much more. Exploring everything from global sustainability to aerial acrobatics, author Crystal Davis is treating the world as her permanent classroom, and finding new ways to exchange her skills for life lessons.
Designed as an enormous opportunity to test limits, explore boundaries and expect more from life, all while raising $365,000 for charities that encourage positive mental health and lifelong learning.
Crystal is strapping her 100 year old typewriter "Astoria" to her back, and taking only one bag on this open ended adventure to venture further, ask more questions, and honour the curious spirit.
why 365 experiences?
Do we really "learn something new everyday", as the old saying goes?
I'd like to say yes. But I know that is not always true for me. There were times when walking a new way home, or finding a new shoe brand were the ways I stretched my learning muscles outside of the office.
Now I am creating an archive of 365 lessons to share with the world and enrich my life in ways I can't yet imagine - one experience for each day of the year.
I'm an excitable creature, and likely to be distracted by shiny things. So here are my rules;
1. Be a completely new experience
2. Learnt in a different place on earth
3. Genuinely enrich my life and/or further my understanding of the world
words are wealth
Words (according to Doctor Who) have a special magic. Why do I love them? They never run out, they can
be used any way I can dream, they connect me to other people, they can come in many different forms.
The more words I learn the more I use, and that is both an asset and a skill. Language is a bottomless
well of wealth, and each day I discover a new way that words can pay my way.
Some ways I can use words in place of money;
Poetry busking (with Astoria)
Writing reviews and articles
Making short films with glorious scripts
Speaking and presenting
Witnessing and recording the stories of others
Creating poetic/word-based art
Paying with or selling my books
Creating local human libraries
Haiku parties (Astoria!)
Swapping language lessons
Archiving important local history
Teaching administration and business
Writing scripts & plays

Steve Jobs impressed me with this ethos: "Each morning I look in the mirror and ask myself, 'If I was going to die today, would I still do what I am about to do?' If the answer is no, I change my day."
Below are some of the experiences, ideas and ways of being that I am seeking - and this list grows every day! Do you know someone that can supply an experience in exchange for words? Hook us up!
