Day 4 Cairns to Edmonton
I rode along the beginnings of the Bruce Highway from Jack & Newell Apartments in Cairns City, to Edmonton, approx 16km. Apart from a torrential but brief downpour, and a fairly constant head wind, the trip was fairly uneventful. Wide shoulders and quiet traffic helped.

Day 5 Edmonton to Gordonvale
A slightly dicier ride with no shoulder for much of the way and a lot more truck traffic, I still made good time to Gordonvale. The smell of sugar cane was beautiful and intoxicating, like burnt molasses. This part of the country began to remind me very much of my childhood, in fact the school looked so familiar I genuinely wondered if I'd lived there at some point!
Gear arrived in the afternoon, allowing me to pimp out myself and the rickshaw with sun protection jerseys, a flag for visibility, some recording gear and improved hydration and nutrition.
Staying in an AirBnB place, it was a nice brief visit!
Avg Speed: 7.39km/h
Max Speed: 18.27km/h
Day 6 Edmonton to Fishery Falls
A much more challenging day. After leaving a little too late, and with strong head winds the whole way, the 17.8km felt much longer. Some occasional wide shoulders in this stretch, but loads of tight narrow areas where had to pull off the road often. With no shade and full sun, I'd recommend leaving super early for this section!
I checked into the Fishery Falls Caravan Park; the most gorgeous gardens, set into the foot of rolling hills and with the sound of the falls right behind my cabin. The caravan park is also next door to the local pub and cafe which was a welcome bonus after the ride!
