The ride was a little more of a struggle, while yesterday was a nice flow - today was an effort from the very first pedal push. Whether it was tiredness or muscle fatigue, or maybe even a bigger headwind, I just found it a lot harder going. However I made it to El Arish in good time, and took a break at "Digger's Rest" just out of town. At this point I had cracked 200km total, hooray!
Not satisfied with my distance for the day, I looked into options. As many people had told me that Mission Beach was worth a look, I decided to head to a hostel on the way there. This 13km was the hardest of the day - steep hills and a very strong headwind as I had turned towards the coast. Very quiet traffic wise thankfully, but several snakes on the road and I had not been able to refill my water anywhere so was running low.
It was an intense few hours pushing through the terrain, and in the final kilometre the chain slipped off and jammed under the guard on a particularly brutal incline. Thankfully I managed to sort it out and make it to the Jackaroo Treehouse Hotel in Bingil Bay, which has the most GLORIOUS view from the communal areas.
Watching the clouds spin across the moon with the radio blaring Coldplay was a nice recovery time, until someone discovered a mouse and the screams of the backpackers could be heard for miles!
